South Carolina Hospitals Turn to AHC for Help with Uninsured Patients

AHC Healthcare Receivables Management recently educated the South Carolina healthcare community on ways to successfully increase reimbursement from the uninsured patient population. This session was held at the South Carolina Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) on January 11th, in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and was attended by the area's top financial and reimbursement professionals.

Manassas, Va., (PR WEB) January 23, 2007 — The dramatic increase in uninsured and under-insured patients poses a significant challenge for healthcare providers. At the recent South Carolina HFMA Winter Institute, hospital leaders listened carefully as Michael Berger, Executive Director of Revenue Cycle Management for AHC, outlined solutions hospitals and health systems can implement in order to meet their financial requirements when providing care to uninsured patients. This educational conference was held on January 11th and was attended by over forty individuals from hospitals and health systems, specialized healthcare providers, and sponsoring organizations.

Representative provider organizations in attendance included:

Self Regional Hospital
Roper Saint Francis Healthcare
Palmetto Health
Loris Healthcare System
Lexington Medical Center
Clarendon Memorial Hospital
Riverside Health System

Session attendees were educated on the accounts receivable issues specific to self-pay patients, including tips on avoiding the pitfalls of uncollectible accounts and how to improve insurance eligibility. The impact of healthcare savings accounts and South Carolina legislation were also discussed.
